Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was promoted to Washington general reporter with NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was appointed chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell is a regular on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She served on an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the weapons control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
